Setting social media goals

Setting your social media goals

Knowing why you’re on social media is an important aspect of understanding and developing your social media goals.

You may have heard lots of marketers say “start with the end in mind”.

There’s a reason we do this.

We need to know what you want to achieve with your marketing, with your social media marketing. Because that will influence what type of marketing we deliver to achieve those goals.

So, starting with the end in mind is all about knowing what you want to achieve with your marketing, and your social media marketing.

You’ve already worked out why you’re on social media.

Understanding why you are on social media, what you want to use it for is the start of your goal setting.

Your why is the overview of your goals.

Your goals are more specific than your Why. Your goals need to be SMART.

Yes, you’ve probably heard it before… SMART goals

Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Time sensitive

It’s important to set SMART goals because SMART goals hold you accountable. And when you’re accountable you’re more likely to achieve your goals.

And, by setting SMART goals, you are able to know if your social media is successful or not.

So, as we say “start with the end in mind”.

It’s time to set your social media goals.

Identify what you want to achieve with your social media. What does the “end” look like for you?

Think about what you want to achieve with your social media.

Think SMART

Your goal should be more than “get more followers”.

Getting more followers might be part of a goal but it’s not your entire goal.

For example: If you’re just starting out on Instagram you might say “my goal is to reach 1000 target market followers on Instagram by 31 December 2020.”

Once you have your goals identified you can work towards developing the social media marketing activities that are going to help you achieve those goals.
